Plant Pests & Diseases
Why Are My Leaves Turning Yellow? (Non-Pest Causes)

Overwatering
The classic cause. Soil stays wet, roots suffocate, leaves yellow and wilt. Fix: let it dry out and check the roots.
Under-watering
Crispy, dry yellow edges on an obviously parched plant. Fix: a deep, thorough watering.
Light Starvation
Lower leaves yellow and drop as the plant moves resources to new growth in low light. Fix: brighter spot.
Salt Build-up
Brown or yellow leaf tips with a white crust on the soil from over-fertilising. Fix: flush the pot with plain water.
Natural Ageing
Oldest leaves yellow and fall as part of life. Only worry if it is widespread or sudden.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I tell over- from under-watering?
A:
Feel the soil -- wet and yellow means too much, dry and crispy means too little.
Q: Should I cut yellow leaves?
A:
If fully yellow, yes; if partly green, leave them to feed the plant.
Yellow is a symptom, not a disease. Match the pattern to the cause above, or use the pest identifier to rule pests out.
